He has competed and won prizes for both solo and chamber settings in prestigious competitions such as the Golden Key Music Festival, Music-fest: Rising Talents, the Coltman Chamber Music Competition, the Empire State Competition, and others. He was a 2013 Grand Prix winner, and a 2-time 2014 Grand Prix winner at the Music-fest: Rising Talents competition, receiving the privilege to perform at Carnegie Hall, NY in both quartet and chamber music settings. He also won Gold Prize at the prestigious Golden Key Music Festival (2014) with his saxophone quartet, and performed at Carnegie Hall once more.
Chaithu has performed in master classes for Dr. James Umble, the New Century Saxophone Quartet, PRISM, and more. His work outside of Eastman has earned him the tremendous opportunity to record with and play for AIR (All India Radio), India’s largest radio network and public broadcaster.
One of his passions is community outreach through music, and he has organized and performed in several musical fundraisers to support many nonprofit organizations, including Kiva Microfunds, the Clinton Foundation in Haiti, and Jeevan Gnanodaya. He raised $10,000 as a member for the Altruistic Artists Foundation, an organization created to raise awareness of teen depression, mental illness and homelessness. He also maintains a private studio in New Jersey.
Chaithu strives to be the type of teacher who not only impresses, but inspires students to pursue their passions. He creates highly individualized lesson plans for each of his students, as he strongly believes that no two students learn the same. Above all, he hopes to foster a real love for music in his students.
