Michael Carlos Mendoza is a versatile and talented guitarist/teacher/composer trying to make his mark on the world of music. A recent graduate of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY with a masters degree in Classical Guitar Performance as well as a Performer’s Certificate for excellence in performing, Michael is cultivating his own unique musical voice by seeking a balance between virtuosic playing ability and careful interpretation and programming. In his interpretations of the classical guitar’s deep repertoire, Michael uses his perspective as both a composer and performer to inform his music.

During his undergraduate studies at the State University of New York at Fredonia, Michael’s talent as a performer led to his being awarded the prestigious Performer’s Certificate and to successful concerts in Spain, France, and Germany as a member of the Fredonia Guitar Quartet. Described as “A remarkable guitar quartet” – L’Alsace (Colmar, France), Michael’s work with the Quartet culminated in a premier of the brand new composition “Filmaginaires,” dedicated to the Quartet by the French Guitarist/Composer Roland Dyens.

Always interested in fostering an appreciation and understanding of music in future generations, Michael is an avid teacher of guitar in all styles and has appeared multiple times as part of the SUNY Fredonia School of Music’s Children’s Concert Series and has appeared in Rochester, NY’s Music for All Series.

In addition Michael is also a capable electric guitarist who has performed around Western New York with his former band, Dr. Rex’s Chromatobeam, and has performed with various bands and ensembles in styles including jazz, blues, metal, rock, pop, and concert music.
